Environmental Policy
How we manage our environmental footprint and comply with environmental law in India and the United States.
Last updated: October 16, 2026
Canny Alley (“Canny Alley,” “we” or “our”) is a technology and strategic investment company headquartered in Noida, India, serving clients worldwide, including in the United States. Our direct footprint is mostly offices, devices, travel and the cloud computing we use and recommend. This policy sets out how we manage that footprint, how we comply with environmental law in India and the United States, and how we bring environmental thinking into our client work and investments.
1. Our commitment
We are committed to:
- complying with all environmental laws and regulations that apply to our operations;
- preventing pollution and reducing the environmental impact of our work, especially energy use and electronic waste;
- using resources efficiently and sending as little as possible to landfill;
- helping clients build technology that is efficient as well as effective; and
- being honest and accurate in anything we say about our environmental performance.
2. Legal compliance in India
We comply with the environmental laws that apply to our operations in India, including:
- the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 and the rules made under it;
- the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022: as a user of electrical and electronic equipment, we hand over end-of-life laptops, servers, networking equipment and other electronics only to recyclers or refurbishers registered with the Central Pollution Control Board, and keep records of what we dispose of;
- the Battery Waste Management Rules, 2022, for batteries from laptops, UPS units and other devices;
- the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, as amended, including the ban on identified single-use plastic items;
- the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, by separating waste at source in our office;
- the Energy Conservation Act, 2001, and the standards and labels of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency when we buy equipment; and
- applicable rules of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board and our building management.
3. Legal compliance in the United States
Where we work in or with the United States, we comply with the applicable federal, state and local environmental laws, including:
- the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rules on hazardous and universal waste (including batteries and certain electronics);
- state electronic-waste and battery recycling laws, such as California’s Electronic Waste Recycling Act, for any equipment we use or dispose of in those states; and
- the Federal Trade Commission’s Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims (the “Green Guides”), so that any environmental claim we make is specific, accurate and supported by evidence.
4. Our operations
4.1. Energy and offices
We prefer energy-efficient (BEE star-rated or ENERGY STAR) equipment and lighting, switch off equipment that is not in use, and favour office spaces with good energy management.
4.2. Devices and e-waste
We extend the life of laptops and other devices through maintenance and reuse, and refurbish or donate equipment where it is safe to do so. Before any device leaves our control, its data is securely wiped. Devices that cannot be reused are recycled only through authorised channels.
4.3. Paper, plastic and waste
We work digitally by default, avoid single-use plastics, separate dry and wet waste, and recycle paper, packaging and other materials where facilities exist.
4.4. Travel
We use video calls in place of travel where practical, and encourage shared and public transport for local travel.
5. Sustainable technology
The cloud and data systems we design for clients consume energy, so efficiency is part of good engineering. Where it suits the client’s needs, we:
- right-size infrastructure and remove idle resources as part of our FinOps and cloud optimisation work;
- use autoscaling, serverless and managed services that use capacity only when needed;
- take into account the carbon intensity of cloud regions and the sustainability reporting tools that providers offer; and
- design AI and data workloads to avoid unnecessary computation and data storage.
6. Responsible investment
When we evaluate and support companies, we consider environmental risks and opportunities alongside commercial factors, and we encourage portfolio companies to comply with environmental law and adopt sensible environmental practices as they grow.
7. Suppliers
We prefer suppliers and partners who comply with environmental law and show care for their environmental impact, and we may ask suppliers about their practices when choosing them.
8. Responsibility and review
Our leadership is responsible for this policy and for providing the resources to carry it out. Every team member is expected to follow it in their daily work. We review the policy at least once a year, and whenever our operations or the law change significantly, and we make the current version available on our website.
